Who can join the Chandler Police Cadets?

Anyone between the ages of 14 and 20 years old who has an interest in law enforcement and meets the program's minimum requirements. See more on the "Join" page. 

Is previous law enforcement experience required?
No, previous experience is not required. The program is designed for those who are interested in learning about law enforcement.

What kind of training do cadets receive?
Cadets participate in various training exercises, including:

  • Tactical drills and defensive tactics

  • Leadership and teamwork exercises

  • Traffic stops and police procedures

  • First aid and CPR certification

  • Firearms Training

Do cadets get to do ride-alongs with officers?
Yes, eligible cadets have the opportunity to go on ride-alongs with Chandler Police Officers to experience real-life law enforcement situations.

What events and competitions do cadets participate in?
Cadets compete in local and regional law enforcement competitions including the Maricopa County Cadet Competition, Las Vegas's ExCon Competition, Colorado's LEEPAC competition, etc. They also engage in local community service opportunities such as Shop with a Cop, Public Safety Day, The Parade of Lights, Ostrich Fest, and many other details. 

How much time do cadets need to commit?
Cadets typically meet once a week for training and participate in occasional weekend events, competitions, and community service projects. Cadets must attend at least two meetings a month and one community service event a month to remain in the program.

What are the uniform requirements?
Cadets are issued a uniform that they must wear at all official events, training sessions, and competitions. Proper grooming and professional appearance standards must be maintained. 

Is there a cost to join the cadet program?
There is no cost to join, but cadets may be responsible for some uniform or travel expenses for competitions. Financial assistance may be available.

What happens after I complete the program?
After cadets "age out" at the age of 21, many cadets go on to careers in law enforcement, public safety, or related fields. Some receive recommendations for police academies, internships, or scholarships.
